Cholera is an acute diarrhea illness caused by a bacteria {(called Vibrio cholerae) } which causes severe diarrhea and dehydration.
Cholera, is sometimes known as Asiatic or epidemic cholera.
It usually spread through contaminated water.
The risk of cholera epidemic is highest in crowded conditions where large number of people live together without adequate sanitation.
Only about one in 10 infected people develops the typical signs and symptoms of cholera, which include: severe, watery diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, dehydration, Hypovolemic shock.
Contaminated water supplies are the main source of cholera infection, but they can also be transmitted through raw shellfish, uncooked fruits and vegetables, and other foods.
